A well-designed environment is critical to process of innovation. With it, innovative processes related to Time and Structure are possible. Without, these initiatives become unnecessarily difficult or impossible. I take a very broad view of Space. It can be a physical space such as a MakerSpace, a collaboration area, a classroom, or a common area. It can also be a virtual space that is created by our software environments. These can facilitate or retard collaboration as much, if not more, than any room can. Effective design is critical throughout the process of creating these spaces and even small mistakes can make a huge difference in how effective the space is at facilitating creativity and communities of innovation.
